What is the procedure for applying for a new arms license?

Applicant shall visit the Home Department along with CNIC (Original & Copy), copy of application submitted for license for collection of token for subsequent process of picture, biodata, police verification and submission of bank challan. Specific days have been designated for private applicants and government officials in following manners. a) Monday & Wednesday: General Public (11:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m). b) Tuesday: Civil Armed Forces (i.e. Pakistan Rangers, FC, Coast Guards, etc.) (1100 a.m. to 03:00 p.m). c) Thursday: Civil Servants, Govt. officials including Sindh Police and Lawyers (1100 a.m. to 03:00 p.m) Friday will be observed as server maintenance day & no request will be processed at Arms Branch on Friday. Submission of application does not vest right for issuance of permission and all applications will be decided on case-to-case basis. Incomplete / direct applications without recommendation of respective regional headquarter / head office, administrative department, missing documents, or if there are reasonable grounds to suspect the applicant ability to handle the firearms, or any other reason (including unlawful use of firearm) may liable to rejection of application.

What is the procedure for issuance of Carry / Journey Permit?

A personal application (in Urdu, Sindhi or English), addressed to Section Officer (Arms) shall be submitted in Arms Section latest by 1400 hrs along with following documents and collected between 1400-1500 hrs: (a) Valid Computerized Arms License (original & copy). (b) Valid CNIC copy. (c) 02 photos (passport size). (b) Manual Licenses (without NADRA registration) of Sindh and manual licenses of other provinces will not be issued carry / journey permission

What is the procedure for Purchase Period Extension / Renewal?

Application for purchase period extension shall be submitted in Arms Section latest by 1500 hrs. Applications for All Pakistan license will also be processed in a manner prescribed under Rule 3.9 of Sindh Arms Rules 2018 on days designated as at para-2, above .

What are the criteria for issuance of new arms license?

The following are the basic requirements for provision of arms license: a. Having Sindh Domicile b. b. 25 years age c. Physically & mentally fitness d. Police Character Verification that the applicant is not involved in any criminal / terrorist activity or affiliated with any proscribed organization. e. Payment of Government fee Challan ofRs. 5000/- (National Bank of Pakistan) f. Personal appearance for bio-metric in Home Department or any concerned district of Sindh Province g. Filled form with one photograph and copy of CNIC (Copy of Form attached)

What is the mechanism for redressal of grievances of staff?

The Staff of SP&CS must submit their grievances , if any, to the Prison Inspectorate through Proper channel. Issues related to the general public only are taken up on this platform

Do thanaas fall within administrative control of SP&CS?

No, thanaas don't fall within administrative control of SP&CS. They operate under Sindh Police Department.

Can Prison authorities release a prisoner on their own?

No, prisoners are released either by orders of honourable courts or upon completion of the sentence of a convicted inmate.

Can a prisoner be transferred from one Prison to another in Sindh Province?

A Prisoner can be transferred but there are few conditions. The Prisoner must be convicted. He or she must not have any pending case in district. The officer’s in-charge of both facilities (sending and receiving) must give NOCs. The IG Prison must also provide NOC. The Home Department of Sindh must provide NOC.

Is interprovincial transfer of any prisoner possible?

Yes it is possible but there are few conditions. These are: The officers in-charge of both facilities (sending one and receiving one) must give NOCs. The IG Prisons of both provinces must provide NOC. Both governments (sending one and receiving one) must agree to the transfer.

Is it possible for any prisoner to keep any other individual in prison on their behalf?

No this is not possible. Prisoners are entrusted to prison authorities by honorable courts. After careful examination of warrants, the prisoners are taken into custody. So this is not possible..

Why are sick prisoners transferred to outside hospitals?

Every Prison facility has its own hospital. However, when the medical officer deems that facilities present in the inside hospitals are not enough, he or she refers the inmate to an outside hospital.

How are prisoners kept in prisons of the Sindh Province?
